Well for xmas I have the chance to get a 27" iMac. My computer is a POS atm. It's slow as anything and a pain to edit photos on.

However, I've seen a Nikon D700 for the same price pretty much as the mac and I'm stuck on what to do. I'm hating my D200 more and more each day.

Do I sell my XM1 for £500 and get the mac ... and then sell my D200 and 10.5mm for about £800 and save up a couple hundred more and get the D700 later, orrrrrrr sell my XM1 and get the D700, then sell my D200 and 10.5 and get the mac later?

So D700 or iMac first?

I'm in the same boat except I dont hate my d200, just would like to upgrade. And my computer Isn't that much of a piece of shit.. but getting their, and my apple care is up this december.

Go with the iMac. Processing on a slow POS computer is such a headache.

27" seems like overkill. I have the 24" and it's huge. What are the chances of opting for the 21.5(or if they still sell the 24"...) and getting the $500 difference to put towards a camera body?

I dunno, they still sell the 24" but I'd just love the 27" haha.

I think, im gonna go for an iMac because the camera can wait. And I'd need to upgrade my glass too which will be more expensive, and like you said, editing even bigger files on my current computer will just be bad.

A couple of replies I got on another forum were ...

That's a tough one.
D700 would be mint, but also needs new glass to be worthwhile.
But then an iMac 27" would also be nice too.

I'd say the Mac if your current computer is a piece of crap.

D700 is about to have it's replacement announced. Get the iMac.

Also as Glyn says, there's no point in getting a full frame body unless you have some of the finest glass available to go on it. After trying several lenses on them I seriously wouldn't use anything less than the 24-70 f/2.8N as the amount of detail the FX sensors resolve is insane. Even the kit 24-120 VR is shocking on it, and that sells for around £600.

I think I'm just gonna go with a new computer and just save my arse off for a new body tongue.gif

The imac the 27 is worth it,it comes with the Intel I7 , Get the D700 later or wait for the D700s

My girlfriend has the 27" and it makes me want to punch someone in the face every time I use it bc I can't afford one.

get the computer over the unnecessary dslr

I agree with everyone. But don't get it cause it's 27" blah blah. My 24" iMac here at work is taller then the 27", since it's not 16:9. Get it because it's a 27" LCD with IPS panel!!!!

They have had problems with them now though. Some screens are warmer on one side and colder on the other.
